My First (& last) Pair of Socks

My mother gave me a set of knitting looms that she didn't plan on using anymore. I have been trying different projects with them. I made a hat & a scarf, but of course gave them away. I worked with the looms enogh to get the hang of it.

I've always wanted to make my own socks. I don't know how to knit. Crochet socks are bulky and uncomfortable looking. The directions for making socks with the loom looked managable to me. I have to admit that I didn't read ALL of the directions before starting. Big mistake! I had the first sock complete with the exception of closing the toe area. At this point the directions call for size 8 knitting needles! I don't have size 8. In fact I don't have any knitting needles. It's okay; maybe I can borrow some. I know people who knit. The directions then call for me to complete using the Kitchner stitch. The pattern is in a book for using the looms. I have read the book cover to cover. I don't remember seeing that stitch. I check the glossary; nope, not there. I go through the book again page by page; not there.
At this point I am very aggrevated. Deep breaths, calm down, Utube is my friend. Do a search...yes! Several tutorials to chose from. I watch a couple. I can do this without the needles. They are just to hold the stitches when I take them off the loom. It actually calls for a tapestry needle to do the work. I finish the sock, all the while swearing that I am not making the second one.

The second sock went much easier. They don't really match, but who's going to be looking at my socks? I made myself a pair of socks! I can check that off my bucket list. I don't think that I will every make another pair, but it was a growing experience. Sometimes it's nice to get outside of our comfort zone and try something different.

Now I believe it is time to put the looms away and get back to crocheting.

Crochet sweater

Not the best photo, but I haven't received any pictures that others took yet. I will not likely be making another of these. It turned out very nice, but was such a pain to put together.
