Mike Eddings Christmas 1985 |
I thought that I would start with some of my beginning crochet projects. This is the very first afghan that I ever made. It was done in a single crochet chevron stitch with variegated blue and trimmed in white. Not sure of the exact size, but it was made to be a throw blanket. I started the project as just something to work on with no end purpose in mind. That was good, since I actually took three years to complete it! I was a teenager and found many other things to do besides crochet. I happen to finish the afghan just before Christmas. I had drawn my Uncle Mike's name in our family gift exchange and had no idea what to get for him. I discussed with my mom about giving him the afghan. I wasn't sure that he would appreciate the significance of my gift. Mom said that it would be a great gift for him. You can see from the picture above that I had no cause to worry. The experience instilled me a joy of sharing my crochet and I have been doing it ever since.
